In the vibrant city of Asheville, North Carolina, where art and culture thrive, I had the privilege of embarking on a portrait shoot with the stunning Karis Marie Roberts. Karis, a local model with roots tracing back to Gabon, Africa, was on a mission to breathe new life into her portfolio, and I was more than happy to help her achieve that goal.

A successful portrait photography session is often the result of a collaborative effort, and this project was no exception. Teaming up with the talented photographer Micah Mackenzie, we embarked on a creative journey that would capture Karis Marie in a diverse array of settings and styles. The vision was clear: showcase Karis Marie as a versatile and dedicated model, emphasizing both the richness of her cultural heritage and the polished professionalism she brings to every shoot.
Cultural Fabrics and Heritage
One of the standout features of this project was the incorporation of cultural fabrics and elements from Gabon. We wanted to celebrate Karis's heritage and create a visual narrative that paid homage to her roots. The dresses are made at her step mothers boutique in Gabon. The vibrant colors and intricate patterns of the fabrics added a unique and personal touch to the editorial portraits, making them truly exceptional.
Backdrop
While we wanted to highlight Karis's cultural background, we also wanted to showcase her as a working model. This meant capturing her in various studio backdrops, highlighting the versatility and adaptability that define her as a model. From elegant and refined to bold and dynamic, Karis effortlessly transitioned between looks, proving her prowess in front of the camera.
